Description

The Gateway Natural Area has two easy and short trails that provide some exceptional views of the Poudre Canyon.

While the trails are scenic, the fishing, floating the river, and picnicking are what really draw people to this Natural Area and it can get crowded here in the summer when people like to come and play in the river.

For a second opinion, check out what our friend Roger Ludwig has to say about the Gateway Natural Area on his website Away From the Grind. I stuck mostly to the two short trails while Roger explored much more extensively.

If you want some scenic views, don’t feel like traveling far into Poudre Canyon, and don’t mind the entrance fee, these are definitely trails to consider.

Travel north from Fort Collins (or south from Laramie) on Highway 287, then head west on Colorado Highway 14.
