Whether training for a race or just trying to break up a workout routine, a good hill workout can be a great thing. There is certainly no shortage of trails with hills for your training needs around Laramie but we have picked the ones we like best for a good hill workout.
- Tie City and Happy Jack: There are a couple good options here. To get into the steep stuff right away, start from the east trailhead for Headquarters Trail. You will gain almost 500 feet in the first mile and come out above Browns Landing. Or you can start from the Happy Jack Trailhead and pick almost any trail that heads back up towards Tie City.
- Barber Lake Trail: If you are willing to drive up into the Snowies and want a trail that’s up hill all the way out and downhill all the way back then try Barber Lake Trial. If you park at the trailhead next to Barber Lake you’ll have a 3.2 mile long trail that gains 1,142 feet. At the bottom the trail is an old road which gradually turns into a more rugged and steep trail.
- Little Laramie: The Little Laramie Trail system doesn’t have any really long steep sections but there are a lot of short steep sections along the 8 miles of trails. You can get in a lot of loops going up and down through the trees. The main trailhead is pretty close to the low point of the trail system. Very similar to this is the Corner Mountain Trail System. There aren’t as many miles of trails at Corner Mountain but it’s a little bit closer to Centennial.
