Overall this is a great GPS unit. I’ve used it for about eight months and here is a quick rundown of what I think.

Garmin Montana 650

What I like:
-The touch screen is responsive and still works well after I put a screen protector on it and even while I’m using gloves.
-The screen is large which allows me to see more of the map area while I’m hiking.
-The ability to customize which applications and shortcuts are on the main screen is a huge plus. It saves a ton of time when you are out on the trail.

What I don’t like:

-It is a little on the big side. It fits well in the hand when you are using it but it can be difficult to find a place to put it. It feels bulky in pockets and wouldn’t hang it around my neck.
-The camera isn’t quite there yet. If you want to take a picture of a sweeping landscape or even pretty flowers, you will probably be disappointed. But if you are looking to take a picture of a landmark so you can find it easier when you travel past it again then the camera will probably work for you.
-It will randomly shut down on me sometimes when I am saving a picture or marking a waypoint. I have never had any data loss when this happens and I’m able to turn it back on and continue what I am doing but it can be a pain.
